Over 1,300 miles separate me from my beloved Opal while I focus on healing from anxiety, depression, and PTSD at a treatment center. Some days feel impossibly hard, but remembering her soft purrs and gentle headbutts gives me strength. She doesn’t know it, but this sweet tabby has been my emotional support through countless dark moments, her unconditional love traveling across state lines to comfort me.

Animal companions like Opal possess an extraordinary gift for healing human hearts. Studies show cats reduce stress hormones and increase oxytocin, exactly what someone in mental health recovery needs. Though I miss her terribly, I carry Opal’s spirit with me, imagining her curled up in our favorite sunbeam back home. This journey would be so much harder without knowing her furry face waits for my return.
