Kitten Age Estimator

Compare a kitten’s eyes, ears, teeth and movement for a broad age estimate, see where clues disagree, and save observations for your vet.

Compare eyes, ears, teeth and movement for a broad developmental range. This is a guide to observing a kitten, not a substitute for a veterinary exam.

Never force closed eyes open. Some cats keep blue eyes as adults.

Look at the resting ear position without bending the ears.

Choose “Not sure” if you cannot look comfortably. Do not force the mouth open.

Observe normal movement on a safe, flat surface. Do not startle or test the kitten.

Recorded for your vet, not used to assign age. Breed, nutrition and health affect size.

Observations stay in this browser, are not saved and are not sent to analytics. Downloading makes a local text file; nothing is uploaded.

How we compare the clues

We compare broad, overlapping developmental windows. Opening eyes suggest an early stage; teeth and coordinated movement give other clues. Permanent teeth suggest about 12 weeks or older. We do not average contradictory features into a confident-looking number.

The windows are a conservative interpretation of published milestones, not a validated scoring model. At least two observations are required. “Consistent” means three or more features overlap within a broad window; it does not mean a confirmed birthday. Blue eyes and upright ears can persist, so those features cannot prove an upper age limit.

ASPCApro: assessing kitten age and ASPCApro: kitten growth chart support the milestone sequence (checked October 17, 2026).

Development is a range

Ears unfold and movement becomes steadier gradually. Eye-color changes and tooth eruption do not happen on a universal birthday. Leave a feature unknown if you cannot observe it comfortably; never force the eyes or mouth open to complete the form.

Cats Protection: development and care by age (checked October 17, 2026).

Care guidance comes first

A very young orphan may need supported warmth, milk feeding and toileting help. Get hands-on advice from a veterinarian or experienced rescue. Weaning, socialization and preventive care depend on the kitten’s condition as well as age; this tool gives no feeding doses, temperatures or medication schedules.

ASPCApro: neonatal care and feeding resources (checked October 17, 2026).

Our week-by-week kitten development guide is the companion guide. The kitten hub links the wider care topics.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this kitten age estimate?

It is a broad, unvalidated developmental estimate. The agreement label only describes overlap among the features you selected. It is not a probability or a veterinary assessment.

Can weight tell me a kitten’s age?

Not by itself. Size depends on nutrition, health and individual growth. Optional weight is recorded in your observation summary but does not change the result.

What if the eyes, teeth and movement disagree?

The tool withholds an age instead of averaging conflicting clues. Check only what you can observe safely and ask a veterinarian or experienced rescue for help.

Can I use the result to give medicine or decide on feeding amounts?

No. Ask a veterinarian or rescue for an individual care plan. A guessed age does not establish medication safety, feeding readiness or that a kitten is ready to leave its mother.
