Editorial Policy

This page explains how CuteCatsHQ articles and tools are made, where the information comes from, and what to do if you spot a mistake.

Who writes the content

Articles are published under the name of Max, a long-time cat owner who runs the site. Nothing is published until it has been checked against its sources and approved by Max.

When an article describes first-hand experience, it is Max's own experience with his cats. We never describe lab tests, measurements or product trials that did not happen.

Sources we rely on

Health, nutrition, behavior and safety information is checked against veterinary and scientific sources, including the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP), the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), the Cornell Feline Health Center, the ASPCA, the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) and peer-reviewed research. The sources for each article are listed at its end under "Editorial Standards".

Health content is not veterinary advice

Our health guides explain what is known and help you decide when to call a vet. They do not diagnose, and they never replace an examination. We do not give medication doses. Articles about symptoms say plainly which signs are emergencies.

None of our articles are currently reviewed by a veterinarian. If a veterinary professional reviews an article in the future, they will be named on that article with their credentials and the review date. We will never imply a review that did not happen.

How our tools work

Each tool page explains its method: the formula or guideline it uses and where it comes from. Tools run in your browser. What you type into them, the names you save and the photos you add stay on your device and are not sent to us.

Product recommendations and affiliate links

Some buying guides link to retailers such as Amazon and Chewy. If you buy through those links we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Commissions do not decide which products we include or how we describe them, and every page with affiliate links says so at the top. We do not claim to have tested a product unless we actually did.

CuteCatsHQ does not currently show display advertising.

Images

Most article header images are illustrations created for that article; they do not show a particular real cat. Diagrams and charts are made to match the sources they illustrate. Illustrations should not be used to identify medical conditions or symptoms.

Dates and updates

The date on an article is when it was first published. An "Updated" date appears only when the article was changed in a way that matters to readers, such as new guidance, corrected facts or substantially new sections, and not for small wording edits.

Corrections

If you find something wrong or out of date, email [email protected] with the page address and what needs fixing. We check every report against the sources, correct confirmed errors, and update the article's date when the change is material.
