History & Origins
TICA: Dorothy Hinds-Daugherty, Philadelphia, early 1960s. Three Siamese kittens with four white feet. She crossed to tuxedo American Shorthairs to lock in white. The inverted V on the face became the face people photograph. The breed nearly collapsed to one breeder around 1977. By 1989 TICA materials put the breeder count around thirty. Championship in TICA: 1994. That is a long wait for a cat people still call rare.
CFA does not give this breed a championship class. That is the same posture as other breeds CFA does not show. If someone sells “CFA Snowshoe championship,” ask them to show the class. Papers from TICA are the usual serious path. A kitten with no registry and four white socks is a pointed mix until proven otherwise.
They still get bred back to Siamese. Ask what is in the pedigree. A pointed cat with socks and no V is a pattern, not a completed Snowshoe. Piebald white is a lottery. Littermates will not match. That is why kittens are hard to find and why a “perfect” face costs a wait. Rarity is not a personality. It is a calendar.

Red flags: CFA championship claim, kittens going home at six weeks, a kink sold as cute, no adult cats to meet, a row of identical faces in the same photo set, a seller who has never heard of Hinds-Daugherty and also cannot say TICA.
Adopting vs. Buying from a Breeder still applies. Waiting is normal. Paying extra for a V is the pattern tax, not a health guarantee.
